Before you select your used ATV off the lot, you’ll first need to give it a thorough inspection. Without an inspection, it’s possible that you could walk away with a model that needs serious, expensiv repairs. To avoid this, be sure to read through our helpful inspection tips below before you arrive at the dealership.

Inspect the Body

To start your inspection, you’ll first want to give the entire body of your used ATV a very thorough once over. Pay close attention to any dings or scrapes on the fenders, and take note of any scratches or damage done to the seat and handlebars. If everything checks out, you’ll want to slide under the ATV to give the undercarriage a good assessment. Keep an eye out for any bends or cracks in the frame and axles, and remember to run your hand down the shocks to make sure they’re not covered in any leaking fluids.

Check the Tires

Your ATV’s tires can tell you a lot about its overall condition. They’re also quite expensive to replace, so you’ll want to be sure you’re walking off the lot with a good set. To start, check that the tread of each tire isn’t too worn down. If you notice the tread is worn unevenly, or that one of the tires has a patch on it, it's a sign that the tires will need to be replaced sooner rather than later.

While a good inspection is an important part of the buying process, even the most thorough examination can’t tell you everything about a used model.
